Cassiopeia blew out a preparatory sigh as she stepped into the gym, dressed in her work-out clothes--which consisted of a pair of skin-tight black leggings that reached a little below her knee, a pair of very short blue shorts that somewhat covered her besides, and a matching tank-top that resembled more of a sports bra than anything else. Which was starting to get a little too small, she noted with a faint grimace and an uncomfortable tug on the shoulder strap.
First she didn't hardly have any boobs at all, and now they wouldn't stop growing.
Her long blonde hair was pulled up into a thick, messy pile on top of her head, long tendrils escaping here or there to float around her face and shoulders but out of the way for the most part. Cassi entered the cleared-out gym area, where Jo was already waiting for her, a practice foil swinging absently in her hands. The redheaded woman turned and gave her a bright smile.
"You ready, Princess?"
Cassi winced. "If by ready do you mean am I ready to get my butt kicked again? Then yah, sure, bring it on."
Jo laughed good-naturedly at that, tossing Cassi the foil in her hands before reaching for another near-by. Cassi caught the one out of the air deftly and twirled it a little herself. "I've been doing this for a lot longer than you have, sweetie," her mother pronounced breezily. "Skill comes with practice and dedication. And a lot of hard work." Jo turned back to her, expression solemn, and even a little proud--under which the teen couldn't help but preen a little. "But you've got a lot of talent, Cassi. Natural talent, with your dancing ability, and that helps. Keep working at it, and one day you might just be as good as me."
"What happened to being humble and gracious?" Cassi demanded, to which Jo chuckled unrepentently.
"We're Pirates, Princess. There's no such thing as humble or gracious. To the victor go the spoils."
An instant later the teasing light had left her blue eye, and Cassi barely lifted her foil up quick enough to block her mother's lightening-quick attacks. Cassi blocked and parried as she'd been taught, ducking and dodging when she couldn't, bending her spine near completely in half at one point before flipping back into a one-handed hand-spring. She straightened a little too late however, and yelped when Jo's foil caught her right across the butt from where the taller woman had managed to somehow come up behind her.
"Acrobatics are all well and good, Princess, but you're leaving yourself too open," Jo admonished, gentle but stern at the same time. "If you're gonna be flipping around the field of battle, you'll have to be a lot quicker than that."
Cassi's face screwed up into an expression of pure determination, gritting her teeth before suddenly going on the offensive. Jo rocked back on her heels, blocking Cassi's agile, quick thrusts and swipes. Still easily, but there was a definite note of admiration in her eye now as she let her adopted daughter back her around the room.
When Cassi started to over-extend herself, Jo snapped in, and with three short maneuvers had Cassi's foil flying across the room. The teen loosened with a dejected slump, panting. Jo leaned in to wrap an arm around her immediately, planting a quick kiss to the top of her head.
"One day soon, you are going to make me a very good Pirate, Princess," she assured lovingly. "And may the Gods have mercy on the rest of the systems when you do."
