In her room, Cassiopeia tossed and turned restlessly in her bed, her blankets long-since kicked away from her faintly sweat-misted body. Fast asleep, her face pinched slightly with pain, her closed eyes squinting. A soft moan of hurt escaped her faintly opened mouth.
Meanwhile, the girl dreamed of strange things. Dark rooms, twisting on and on like a labyrinth, choked in a foul-smelling smoke. Pain and torment painted the walls, rage and anger carpeted the floor, suffering stifled the air.
Cassi was drawn along through it all, unable to escape, unable to look away. Until, finally, she came to a dead end. And there, in the center of the room, was a large steel cage. Coated in dried blood. And in the cage crouched a very big cat. It looked like a tiger, except it was blood red and white rather than the typical orange striped in black. And this one stared out at her with a pair of glowing purple eyes. Eyes that held Cassi prisoner, devouring, and wouldn't let her look away.
Help me . . . . The cat didn't speak, but Cassi heard it's moaning plea all the same, all the rage and sorrow beating at her skull like a dull drum beat. Help me . . . someone please, help me . . . . Cassi wavered, the pain becoming like twin jackhammers thundering against her temples. The cat suddenly sprang forward, slamming itself up against the bars, this as well as the loud wailing roar it let loose causing Cassi to jerk where she stood.
HELP ME!
Cassi came awake with a wrench and a cry, sitting straight up in bed. She panted for breath for several minutes, lifting a faintly trembling hand to her face, stunned to find herself drenched in sweat.
What a weird dream, she thought to herself shakily. And so . . . real.
Cassi managed to recover enough to get out of bed after a moment, her long blonde hair done in a thick rope of a braid for sleeping and falling over one shoulder as she bent to strip the mattress of the now-soiled sheets. She made quick work of replacing them, but afterward didn't feel much like getting back in bed. Restless and edgy from the disturbing things she had seen--even if it was just a nightmare--Cassi decided to go ahead and get dressed for the day.
Perhaps she could find something to keep her occupied. It wouldn't be long before they arrived at Aphrodite's Arms, now, only a day or two more. Everyone's stress level was extremely high, from being on such high alert for so long. That was probably the reason why she'd had such a horrible dream. She never did take stress very well. Andromeda was the one who remained cool under pressure, not her. She tended to turn into an emotional wreck. Cassi made a face at herself in the mirror from where she undid her braid and began brushing out the long, golden mane.
While she did so she briefly wondered where she would go first. Perhaps to the bridge, to visit with Jane? Her vision started to tunnel, and Cassi let out a slight noise of annoyance, blinking rapidly. Yet for once, she was glad for her ability, as the brief glimpse let her know that Jane was rather . . . busy at the moment. Blushing, Cassi finished brushing her hair and then turned to leave the room. T.K. was sleeping for once, having passed out watching one of his many animes. So was Dane, cuddling with one of his many guns. Andromeda was also sleeping for once, curled up on one of the examination beds, a data pad hanging limply from one hand.
Cassi shook her head slightly with a sigh, trying to rid herself of the dizziness of so much "peaking." Then she began down the halls, wondering if she might find the Captain awake. He slept less than T.K. it seemed, and walked the halls even more than her.
